Rizal, Kiukok, Edades featured in upcoming free exhibition at Ayala Museum

Ayala Museum, in partnership with AIA Philippines, will open the Unraveling the AIA Philippines Art Collection, a free exhibition featuring 11 works by Filipino visual art masters, on April 23, 2024.

Part of AIA Philippines’ (formerly PhilAm Life) art collection, these 11 works feature a diverse cast of artists such as national artists Ang Kiukok and Victorio Edades, and even national hero Jose Rizal, in a wide range of styles and media representing different historical periods. Originally hung and commissioned for the former PhilAm Life Building along UN Avenue in Manila, this will be the first time that these works are being exhibited publicly.

These artworks initially graced the halls, walls, and offices of the former Philam Life building along U.N. Avenue in Manila.

“We’re so glad to bring this special opportunity for the public to see, for the first time, the works of some of the best Filipino visual artists for free. These masters have made such important contributions to the development of Filipino visual art, and we’re very thankful to AIA Philippines for choosing Ayala Museum as the venue to showcase their art collection,” said Mariles Gustilo, Senior Director of Ayala Museum.

Tony Lambino, President of Ayala Foundation, added, “This selection, which represents Filipino works from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, shows our rich visual arts heritage. The development of this Filipino heritage has been distinct, but at the same time able to flow with and stand out in the overall global art scene.”

Ayala Foundation manages the Ayala Museum as part of its Arts and Culture Division.

Unraveling the AIA Philippines Art Collection is curated by Kenneth Esguerra and will run until May 26, 2024. Ten works can be viewed at the 2/F Changing Gallery of Ayala Museum, while Galo Ocampo’s stained-glass work Sarimanok can be viewed at the museum’s Main Lobby. Admission to this exhibition is free.
